Sacha Baron Cohen is set to star in The Popinjay Cavalier, Quentin Tarantino’s first play written for the stage. The production announced its Phoenix Theatre run in London on 12 October. [1]
What has been confirmed?
Baron Cohen has the title role. Tarantino wrote the comedy and is directing it. The announced story is set in 1830s Europe and draws on the swashbuckling adventures of stage and screen. Ticketmaster’s theatre announcement gives 23 February 2027 for previews and 18 March for the official opening; booking is currently listed through 13 June. [1]
The announcement names the design and creative team, but says further principal casting is still to come. That leaves plenty to discover about the show beyond its famous names. Dates and ticket availability can change, so anyone making plans should check the production or venue directly.
Why this is an interesting pairing
Baron Cohen is known for creating characters that put social behaviour under pressure; Tarantino is known for film dialogue and stylised genre storytelling. How those instincts work together in a live comedy remains an open question until audiences see the play. THE SIGNAL has not attended a performance or interviewed the team.
