A UK trade mission to India has announced a package of commercial deals and investment plans. The government says these could support hundreds of UK jobs, but the projected jobs and revenue have not all materialised. [1]
What is in the announcement?
According to the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, Meta for Data Technologies plans a £50 million UK investment and 500 skilled jobs in London and Manchester. Its proposal includes AI and data facilities and a quantum computing lab in Greater Manchester. The department also says Menzies Aviation is expected to generate more than £600 million in revenue over a 15-year ground-handling licence in Bengaluru. [1]
The mission brings ministers, northern mayors and more than 100 businesses to Delhi and Mumbai. Another announced plan is for children’s clothing company Angel & Rocket to expand its stores in India over five years. These figures describe commitments, expectations and forecasts in the government release; they should be checked against actual investment and hiring as they unfold.
What it could mean locally
New work in Manchester and London would be tangible if the promised roles are created and accessible to local people. We will watch for hiring dates, locations and outcomes after the delegation returns. THE SIGNAL has not independently verified the companies’ forward-looking estimates.
